Charity Initiatives

Externally, King David # 116 concentrates on collaborating with local entities in the greater Columbus (OH) vicinity to positively impact our community. During the 2023 calendar year, our efforts included:

(Three times a year) we volunteered and recruited manpower for the food distribution pantry at Faith Ministries on Agler Road in Columbus where we served in sorting, distributing, and loading food in community members vehicles. We also helped clean up the church facilities after the event. Our sisters from Grace Chapter # 100, Order of the Eastern Star have joined in this community service effort and regularly volunteer with us.

We solicited loose change donations on an annual basis from King David # 116 members to alternately contribute to either the local United Negro College Fund (UNCF) or Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund. This year, five Brothers donated and the lodge sent $200.00 to the Columbus Chapter of the UNCF during their Fall fundraising campaign.

Locally, we recruit area high school students throughout the academic year for the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Ohio’s Scholarship program.

Of the 21 first year scholarship awardees (2023), King David #116 members recruited five for a total of 23.8%. Of the 23 continuing scholars we recruited seven or 30.4%. These winners collectively constitute 12/44 or 27.3% of all MWPHGLO Aron Moss Jr. scholars this academic year.

Internally, we support the Henry Sims Sr. Chapter of the Pythagorans (mentorship program) by raising funds to offset expenses for at least one deserving at risk student to attend Youth Grand Session every year in Toledo, OH at the University of Toledo.

King David # 116 members participate with our youth group in mentoring
activities and organizational meetings. As successful men in the community, we
are involved because we believe it takes a village to raise a child and we accept
the responsibility of mentoring African American boys, pre-teens, teens and
young men.

Last but not least, we are coordinating an effort to reach out to the widows of our departed members to offer nominal assistance for help around the home.  The 2024 calendar year will be the first year this program is initiated.
